Working at Maristow Nursing Home

Staffing is enough to cover shifts with a nurse always on duty, but busy days mean it can feel stretched.

Only standard training covering basics and some dementia courses, plus supervision, with no funded qualifications or career paths.

Training was provided in a range of areas. One member of staff told us, 'I feel competent. I have recently done dementia training, I found it good.'

No activities coordinator or regular varied programme, just fortnightly music therapy and a couple of volunteers, so mostly routine care tasks.

The provider organised a music therapist to visit fortnightly. Two volunteers regularly visited the home to provide companionship to those who did not have frequent visitors.
