"Staff feel supported by management and valued, but medicines not always handled safely and communal areas need better oversight."
The service did not always make sure that medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs... When people were prescribed medicated patches, the records showed they were not always applied in line with the manufacturer’s directions... Not all people’s individual risk assessments had been updated
Staff told us management supported them and promoted their wellbeing. They said, “I am treated well as a staff member. We have employee of the month, we get a certificate” and, “I am happy I feel supported if needed, [registered manager] is ok she will sort problems”
Most people fedback that there was sufficient staff in the service however we observed a communal area required more staff oversight to monitor and manage this area... There are usually about 4 on, I see the same staff and they have regular agency staff.
Staff were recruited safely and had undertaken training. Specific training to support people with challenging behaviour was planned for all of the staff team... Staff told us and the records we reviewed confirmed supervision was taking place.
Staff were positive about the registered manager and the support they provided, team meetings and night checks were taking place along with senior management team meetings that included evidence to support and drive improvements.
A timetable of activities was on display and there was a sensory area... Everybody gets 1:1 with the activity worker. Once a month they get a singer in... pub afternoon and play darts. They have been out to see the Blackpool illuminations
Medication not always handled safely like patches applied wrong, and not all personal risk plans up to date yet.
When people were prescribed medicated patches, the records showed they were not always applied in line with the manufacturer’s directions. This meant people were at risk of skin irritation. Not all people’s individual risk assessments had been updated in the electronic system
Staff numbers okay most times but busy spots like communal areas need more eyes, and agency staff don't know residents well.
we observed a communal area required more staff oversight to monitor and manage this area... concerns when agency are in the service and their lack of knowledge of people’s needs
Basic training done but specialist stuff like handling challenging behaviour not finished for the whole team.
we saw challenging behaviour training had not been completed by the staff team. The registered manager confirmed the plans in place to ensure all staff undertook this training without delay
