"A supportive culture where staff feel listened to and valued, but high staff turnover, missing training, and poor medicines management hold it back."
We identified a breach of the legal regulations for safe care and treatment. People did not always have accurate care plans to guide safe practice. Medicines were not always properly and safely managed.
Staff felt confident in raising any issues with the registered manager. Positive comments included, “My manager seems to listen to everything I have to say” and, “They are supportive of me."
Some people felt there was a lack of continuity and retention of staff. For example, a person said, “They seem to have a problem with staff; they’re always changing them. There are always new faces.” A staff member described staffing as, “a struggle” noting there was limited time to spend with people outside of delivery personal care.
The provider had not ensured staff received training to meet people’s individual needs and in response to risk. This included staff having not received falls or catheter care training.
We received mixed feedback from staff in relation to the leadership and the support they received. For example, some staff noted their limited contact with the management team particularly if they worked nights.
There was limited activities provision which presented a risk that people would be under-stimulated. Staff interactions outside of basic care tasks, were observed to be limited.
Staffing feels like a struggle at times with high turnover and new faces, so there is limited time for anything beyond basic care.

Key training is missing like on falls prevention and catheter care even though people need that support.

Medication records are inaccurate and practices need fixing to keep people safe.
Medicines administration records were not always accurate and up-to-date. Guidance to support staff in the safe administration of ‘when required’ medicines was not always in place or lacked person specific information.
