"Supportive leaders and a close-knit team where staff feel valued, although activities lack a dedicated coordinator and are mostly routine."
The service had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. They listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. All safeguarding concerns had been reported appropriately. Staff managed medicines safely.
Staff told us they felt well supported and valued. One staff member said, “It’s a pleasure to come to work and be here for people. I really enjoy it.” Staff told us, “I love it here. There isn’t one staff member who doesn’t care about the people we look after.”
There were enough staff with the right skills who had undergone specific training to support people safely. A staff member told us, “We are a very close-knit team. We do not use agency because it’s nice to make sure people have consistent support.”
Staff had undergone vigorous training to enable them to recognise and respond to people’s needs when they were unwell physically or mentally. Only staff who had undertaken medication training were permitted to administer medicines.
Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening and trust. Leaders recognised when staff needed resting periods throughout the day. Staff felt supported. Comments included, “The manager is good. Really supportive."
Two people had been supported to attend an annual festival which they had never been to before. Two people attended colleges, and another person had been supported to find employment. Staff would tailor their support hours with people to ensure they had time for their preferred activities.
No dedicated activities coordinator or specialist programmes, so the role is mostly routine support for independence like cooking and cleaning with some basic community outings.
We observed people being safely supported in the communal areas. Staff were asking people what they would like to cook for lunch, and if they needed support to clean their flats.
