The service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment and safe and effective staffing... There were gaps in medication records... Medicines were stored outside their required temperature range compromising their effectiveness and safety.
During our assessment we were told there had been some turnover in staff and morale was low. Some staff spoken with did not feel supported and thought communication could be improved... One staff told us, “Morale is the biggest issue.”
Feedback from people using the service regarding staffing levels was generally negative... 'There are not a lot of staff, they are definitely short staffed'... A review of staff rotas showed regular use of agency staff to meet people's needs and on-going recruitment was being undertaken.
Whilst there was a programme of training in place, completion was low... staff training records showed a low completion rate in Safeguarding Adults training... only 60% of care staff had completed training in this area.
The registered manager had been in post since June 2024 and registered with CQC in March 2025. However, following our visit to the home, we were told a further management change was to be made. Management audits and checks had not been fully implemented and embedded to help identify and drive improvement.
There was no designated activity staff providing activities and opportunities for people... People we spoke with said there was not a lot to do. One person commented, “There aren’t really many activities. We sit watching TV a lot."
Not enough staff so care workers are stretched thin, especially at night, and they rely on agency workers a lot.
