People received their medicines safely and as prescribed. Although there were systems in place to keep people safe from avoidable harm, there had been an increase in falls resulting in injuries. We saw evidence the provider was actively investigating this.
Staff told us the managers were open and honest and they felt supported and listened to. In the staff survey completed in March 2024, 98% of staff agreed with the statement ‘I believe we put our residents at the heart of everything we do’.
Although on the day of our assessment we observed suitable numbers of staff available to support people, feedback from people and relatives demonstrated that this was not always the case. They were also concerned about the high use of agency staff.
The registered manager regularly assessed staff competencies and skills. Staff received regular supervision and a yearly appraisal. New staff were recruited safely and appropriately.
Staff felt the service was well-led by a manager who was inclusive, open and supportive. Managers completed a daily walkaround of the service which included gaining feedback from team members around wellbeing.
There was a range of social activities offered to people who were able to mobilise to the communal areas. However, there was a lack of meaningful engagement for those who were bedbound.
Night shifts often rely on agency staff and there are complaints about staffing shortages and high turnover leaving teams stretched.
