We found a breach of legal regulations in relation to medicines. The management of people's medicines was not always safe... Processes to help ensure that risks to people were assessed and mitigated were not always effective and there had been a high number of incidents including unwitnessed falls.
Staff told us there was a good and positive culture within the home. Their comments included, “We have a good team that works together” and “I feel very positive about our team. We work well together and are able to talk about our concerns to each other.”
Although staffing levels were overall adequate to meet people’s needs, on the day of our visit, staff in one of the units seemed rushed. Most relatives thought there were not always enough staff on duty.
Staff received regular training and had their competencies checked. They said they received training that equipped them to do their job well and care for people who used the service.
Staff spoke favourably of the management team and felt listened to and consulted. The management team was visible in the service, approachable and took a genuine interest in what people, staff, relatives and professionals had to say.
There was a range of activities available for people and these were person-centred. The activities programme is excellent and always well attended by the residents.”
