Working at Howards Residential Home

Staff knew how to keep people safe... People's risks were assessed and measures were put into place to protect people from harm... Policies and procedures meant that medicines were managed safely apart from the lack of PRN protocols which has since been addressed.

Staff said they worked well as a team and appreciated the openness and approachability of the registered manager. One member of staff said, 'The manager is approachable and supportive' and another said, 'Everybody gets on well.'

There were sufficient numbers of staff deployed to meet people's needs. A family member said, 'There always seem to be enough staff.'

Staff received training and attended courses which developed their skills and knowledge. The registered manager said they used a mixture of on line training and face to face courses in the home. Staff were working through the care certificate.

People had access to a variety of activities to stimulate their minds and keep them fit. We saw many people enjoying a bingo session and a game of Jenga... There were trips out to places of interest and local attractions.
