Working at Highfield Residential Home

People were protected from the risks of abuse... Risks to people's health, safety and welfare were assessed and measures taken to reduce risks. Medicines were stored, managed and disposed of safely.

There was an open and transparent culture where people and staff valued each other... Staff told us, 'We work really well as a team. [The registered manager] is here everyday. It is a lovely home'.

People told us there were enough staff. They said they received support when they needed it. Throughout the inspection staff were not rushed and spent time chatting with people.

Staff completed regular training to keep their skills up to date... Training included topics such as Dementia and Parkinson's Disease... Staff were supported to undertake additional qualifications, such as vocational qualifications.

The registered manager was supported by a manager and team of staff who worked cohesively... The registered manager welcomed feedback about the service to enable them to continually drive improvements.

Regular meaningful activities were offered, such as baking cakes and crafts sessions. There were visiting singers and exercise classes. The activities co-ordinator spent time with people on a one-to-one and group basis.
