"Compassionate leaders and a happy, stable staff team provide strong support, but medicines safety issues like poor records hold it back."
Medicines were not always safely managed... monitoring of temperatures of storage areas were not escalated when it was outside of the recommended range... For one-person prescribed powder... it’s use was not always recorded. For people who had their medicines crushed... wasn’t always documented... not always a record of where this was applied.
Staff felt happy to work at the service. All of the staff we spoke with were positive about the care provided, how leaders supported the staff team and staff felt valued. One member of staff told us, “I would feel able to raise a concern. The manager is really approachable.”
There were enough staff to provide safe care to people. While the service had access to temporary staff in cases of urgency, we found there was a consistent staff team... Staff felt there were enough staff.
We found some staff needed to complete refresher training however the registered manager was actively monitoring and managing this to ensure staff had the up to date skills to provide safe care. Staff had regular supervisions.
Staff consistently told us leaders were capable and compassionate. The registered manager told us, “I fully investigate to understand what has happened. To learn from this, I share the outcome... with staff.”
Medication safety has problems like unchecked storage temperatures and missing records for crushed meds or patch locations.
monitoring of temperatures of storage areas were not escalated when it was outside of the recommended range; this meant there was a risk medicines were not safe to give to people. For people who had their medicines crushed prior to administration this wasn’t always documented... For medicines patches there was not always a record of where this was applied
Some staff have overdue refresher training even though the manager is working to fix it.

Audits and checks missed key issues like medication records and consent forms.
whilst audits and checks were being completed, these did not identify and resolve the issues we found on inspection... People did not give consent to their care and those people who were unable to make their own decisions did not have documentation
