"Staff praised the new manager's improvements, sufficient staffing, training and support, but inaccurate medicines records and missed safeguarding checks put residents at risk."
Medicines management continued to require improvement, as the provider had not made sure records for people's medicines and treatments were accurate and complete. This meant people were placed at risk of harm.
Staff also spoke positively. One stated when asked if the home was well-led, “Now? Yes... We have a new manager, and it’s made a massive difference.”
Overall, people, relatives and staff told us enough staff were deployed to meet needs and keep people safe. A dependency tool was now being used.
Staff received sufficient training, support and supervision, to ensure they could carry out their roles safely and effectively. A new supervision & appraisal matrix had also been introduced.
We received positive feedback from people, relatives and staff about the current home manager and the improvements they had overseen since being in post.
Activity provision had improved... weekly exercise class and therapy dog visit... fitness instructor... armchair exercises... bingo and a school choir... arts and crafts sessions.
Medication records have mistakes like missing patch sites or outcomes from painkillers, which weren't spotted by checks and could harm residents.
The site of application of topical preparations, such as patches, was not always recorded... When people were given a ‘when required’ medicine... the outcome was not always recorded
No full-time activities coordinator yet, with records of what people did patchy, so days might feel routine.
The provider was still in the process of recruiting a designated activity coordinator... written records of activity completion and people’s involvement, were sporadic.
Safeguarding checks missed two complaints about possible neglect, and incident follow-ups aren't always logged properly.
We also noted 2 complaints... included information which suggested neglect may have occurred. As this is a type of abuse, safeguarding alerts should have been raised, but this had not yet been done... follow up actions taken, had not been completed consistently.
