Risks to people's safety and wellbeing had been assessed and comprehensive risk assessments were in place. Medicines were managed safely in the home. At the time of the site visit, the home had a controlled drugs cabinet, but this was not appropriately attached to the wall. We raised this with the registered manager who took action.
Staff we spoke with felt supported by management and said staff morale was good, and the team worked well together to meet people’s needs. Open communication was promoted between management and care staff.
The staffing rota indicated that there were sufficient permanent staff working at the home to cover planned and unplanned staff absences. On the day of our site visit, we found there were sufficient staffing numbers and staff were not rushed.
Records showed that staff had received training in areas relevant to their roles. Staff received supervision sessions which provided an opportunity for them to discuss their performance and professional development.
Staff spoke positively about working at the home. They were complimentary about management and said they were well supported. They also told us they felt valued working at the home and there were opportunities for progression.
On the day of the site visit, an activities coordinator supported people with light exercises with music. Other activities available to people in the home on a weekly basis were hand massages, spiritual visits, arts and crafts and quizzes.
