Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and knew how to report any concerns... Medicines were administered safely and as prescribed... Robust systems were in place to identify and manage foreseeable risks... Incidents and accidents were recorded and reviewed.

People told us there were enough staff available to support them. One person said, 'There's no problem [with staff levels], even nights and weekends.' Hazel Lodge had a well-established and stable staff team.

Staff had received appropriate training and support... A staff member told us, 'We are really supported... with our training and are able to access specialist training where we need it, to meet each person's needs.' Staff received regular supervision and an annual appraisal.

People, their relatives, staff and external professionals told us the registered manager and provider were supportive, and the home was well led. One relative said, 'The best thing about Hazel Lodge is that the [registered] manager is very approachable. She's a brilliant manager.'

We observed people being supported with an arts and craft activity and saw that activities such as quizzes, singing and gardening were provided... staff had arranged food theme nights... specific days... bring in well behaved dogs... donkeys... day out... Easter party, day trips.
