"Approachable leadership, reliable staffing without agency use and positive culture, although newness means no long track record on staff retention and activities lack a dedicated coordinator."
People had individual risk management plans, which were designed to keep them safe from harm while restricting their freedom as little as possible... The provider assessed and managed risks to people well... When things did go wrong, the provider learned from this to improve risk management plans.
The service had a person-centred culture... A member of staff told us, 'We treat the people here like we would our own family.' The provider received 'Good Employer' accreditation... Staff told us they had a diverse team... and that they were free to express themselves without fear of discrimination.
Staffing levels were based on people's needs... rotas showed this level was met. The registered manager told us they did not use agency staff but had bank staff who knew the people using the service and could cover shifts when needed.
Staff gave us positive feedback about the training they received, which was a comprehensive programme tailored to meet the needs of people using the service. The provider designed the training programme to make sure staff received the training they needed... before moving on to more specialised training.
Leadership was visible and staff told us the registered manager was approachable... Staff told us, 'He always listens' and '[The registered manager] always acts on people's feedback. He's the best manager I've worked for.'
Each person had a personalised programme of activities that were meaningful and enjoyable to them and promoted their wellbeing. Staff supported one person, who enjoyed cycling, to assemble a new bicycle... People had opportunities to access their local community and farther afield for activities and day trips.
Being a new home, there's no long track record yet on staff staying long-term or super stable teams.
This service was registered with us on 27/09/2018 and this is the first inspection.
Activities include personal hobbies and community trips, but no dedicated coordinator or specialist programmes to add extra variety to shifts.
