"A happy staff culture with more time for residents and improved activities, but unsafe staff recruitment and gaps in safety guidance hold it back."
Accidents and incidents were now recorded and analysed but the action taken was not always recorded clearly. Medicine management had improved but guidance relating to when required medicines still needed to be improved

They did not always make sure staff received effective support, supervision and development
The operations director had based themselves at the service to drive improvement. They had also applied to be the registered manager, which was confirmed during the assessment. The oversight of the service had improved

New staff get hired without full checks on past jobs or references from care roles, and concerns about why they left old jobs are not risk assessed
The application forms had not been fully completed with some gaps in employment, the reasons for why staff had left their previous had not been fully explored or recorded. The management team had not always requested references from previous social care providers. When there had been concerns about why the staff member had left their previous role this had not been recorded or risk assessed
Guides for risks like falls, catheters, and when to give extra pain or constipation meds lack details on what to do
there continued to be gaps in the guidance, for example, when people did not want staff to support them with their catheter care. Staff had not always been able to support with the changing of the drainage bag weekly... there was no specific care plan and guidance for staff to reduce the risk [of falls]... limited guidance for staff about when to give the medicine, how often and what action to take if it was not effective
Staff do not always get proper supervision or development to build skills
They did not always make sure staff received effective support, supervision and development
