"Positive team culture, but no permanent manager, staffing shortages, and safety breaches make the workplace unstable."
At this inspection the service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to people’s safe care and treatment.
Staff wellbeing was not consistently supported. Staff frequently missed breaks or took them while remaining with people, meaning they did not always have adequate time to rest or manage their workload effectively.
Staff raised concerns about staffing levels. Staff told us it was sometimes difficult to complete medicine rounds safely, and breaks were missed or taken while remaining with people rather than away from their duties.
The service did not consistently apply or document capacity assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) applications correctly.
At the time of our visit, there was no registered manager in post. The Deputy Manager (Acting manager) and Nominated Individual facilitated the inspection.
Activity options were limited, and opportunities for outings were affected by staffing pressures. One relative said, “They could do with more staff, this affects being able to take my relative out.”

Medication and infection control issues make the job riskier than it should be.
Staff sometimes failed to record why a person refused their medicine, did not consistently follow clear and personalised PRN (“as required”) protocols, and did not always maintain good hygiene during medicine rounds.
