The service was in breach of 2 legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment due to inadequate care planning and risk assessment and environmental risks.
Staff told us they felt listened to and valued by the management team... The most recent staff surveys indicated staff were very happy, particularly with the registered manager’s support.
We observed enough staff to support people... staff rotas demonstrated a consistent staff team with minimal agency staff used.
Staff had received safeguarding training... However, 1 staff member found it difficult to understand what safeguarding meant due to language barriers.
Most relatives felt the registered manager had responded quickly to concerns but one relative had never met them and another said it was not easy to get hold of the manager.
There was an activity co-ordinator... relatives praised the exercise man, children visits, animals and 1:1 sessions with people in their rooms.
Risks not managed properly with no clear staff guidance on known issues like people removing their equipment or falls.
There was no information or mitigation in place to support a person who for several months had removed equipment from themselves... Some known risks had not been assessed.
Some staff do not fully get key training topics like protecting people from harm or legal rights due to language problems.
1 staff member we spoke with found it difficult to understand... what safeguarding people meant, this was due to language barriers... Two care staff members were unable to tell us which people had DoLS authorisations.
Safety systems miss problems like medicine storage temperatures and dirty equipment leading to quick fixes during inspection.
The temperature exceeded the safe maximum... in areas where prescribed medicines were stored... pressure cushions were dirty; a shower chair was worn... extractor fans... dirty.
