"Staff feel supported by visible managers in an inclusive culture with good training, but care plans miss key health details like pressure sores leaving staff without clear guidance."
A new person to the home did not have care plans in place for 2 of their health conditions which meant staff did not have clear guidance on providing care. Other care plans were not clear or up-to-date, for example no care plan for pressure ulcers.
Staff spoke of an inclusive and supportive working environment where they worked well as a staff team and communicated well with one another. They felt at ease to raise any issues needing addressing.
On the day of our visit, there were sufficient levels of care staff to support people’s day to day needs. Duty rotas showed the identified staffing levels were maintained across the home.
Staff completed training relevant to their roles to keep their skills and practice updated. Training records demonstrated staff completed regular training as required by the provider.
Staff told us managers were visible and gave them support and guidance. Staff were positive about managers and said they demonstrated a caring attitude towards them.
‘keep fit’ took place in the home twice weekly by an external provider which people enjoyed. During the afternoon people were seen laughing and enjoying an activity with a staff member in the lounge.
Some care plans miss details on health risks like pressure sores or catheters, so staff lack clear guidance on how to manage them.
1 person had pressure ulcers on their skin but there was no care plan advising staff of this and how these should be managed. A person with a catheter had no care plan or ‘catheter passport’.
Staffing is adequate on most days but feels stretched at busy times or weekends when needs are high.
‘They may be short staffed sometimes at weekends’, and ‘The staff are over-stretched. People have different needs, and some need more help than others’.
Only basic activities like keep fit sessions and lounge games with no dedicated coordinator or special programmes to vary the day.
‘keep fit’ took place in the home twice weekly by an external provider. Records were not consistently maintained to show community activities.
