Staff were able to describe different types of abuse and the action they would take if they suspected abuse had taken place. Medicines were managed safely in accordance with current regulations and guidance.
Staff had a clear understanding of the vision and philosophy of the home and they spoke positively about their work and the management. Staff felt supported by the homes leadership and listened to.
Staffing numbers were sufficient to ensure people received a safe level of care. All staff spoken with said that they felt the home was sufficiently staffed.
Staff had undertaken essential training as well as additional training specific to the needs of people and had regular supervisions with a senior staff member.
The service was not consistently well led. A robust system to monitor long standing staffs' suitability to remain working in care sector had not been considered.
People were supported to take part in a range of activities in the home and access the community. During our inspection we saw people taking part in activities such as a sing-along, music sessions and a quiz.

We found some staff had not had a refresh to their DBS since 2003. This meant there was a risk employees' may not declare changes which could affect their employment status.
