"A warm family-oriented culture and solid training, but short staffing leaves carers too rushed and medicines are not managed safely."
Risk assessments did not always contain enough information to ensure staff were able to recognise and manage risks... medicines were not managed in a safe and effective way.
A staff member said, “I love the residents and have formed good relationships.” The local authority told us they felt the home was a very family-oriented home.
We raised the concern around a lack of staff presence in the lounge for large parts of the morning... Staff we spoke with felt they were often too busy to spend time with people.
Staff had received training and following the inspection, the provider booked further training for staff in response to some of the concerns raised during this inspection.
Staff told us they often felt confused who to go to for queries or support between the registered manager and owner.
Apart from a singer that attended the home, there were no activities and people did not leave the home unless friends or relatives took them out.
Not enough carers on shift, so you are rushed doing laundry, kitchen and meds besides care duties.
One staff member said, “At the moment we are expected to do activities, teas, laundry, meds, the kitchen. In between that we prepare the breakfasts as well. The rest [people] are getting neglected whilst we are doing these other jobs
No activities programme or coordinator, so the role is just routine personal care.
There were no formalised activity plans in place aside from a singer who visited regularly.
Medication not handled safely with poor recording and timing issues, plus risk plans lacking guidance.
Systems in place to manage medicines were not safe. Some of the issues identified included, lack of adequate documentation when disposing of medicines, inappropriate recording of medicines when administered, medicines not being administered in a timely manner
