"Supportive managers promote staff wellbeing and a positive culture where staff feel valued, although an unlocked side gate posed a temporary security risk until fixed and upgraded."
The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty... Medicines were well managed... Staff were up to date with safeguarding training.
Staff felt encouraged to be open and supported to give feedback and were treated well when they did so... Staff said they would recommend the home to friends and family and one staff member told us, 'Yes of course [I would recommend the home to others].'
There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience to care for people... appears well staffed and the staff are not constantly changing.
The provider made sure staff received training and regular appraisals... On top of the care certificate and mandatory training each staff member had a specialist training. For example; a staff member recently completed Level 5 Adult and Social Care Training.
Managers supported the wellbeing of the staff... Staff spoke highly of the registered manager. Comments included... 'the manager is very approachable and understanding, and actually very responsible.'
There was an activity coordinator in place who involved people in the planning of activities... They do jigsaws, music type concert, exercise lady... pet therapy visits from ‘Dolly’ a Mayhew dog... Level 3 art students were working on mural artwork.
A side gate was unlocked during the inspection posing a risk of unauthorised access until fixed on the spot
During our inspection, we observed that a gate at the side of the property had not been securely locked, despite having a padlock attached. This posed a potential risk of unauthorised access... the manager took immediate action by securing the gate... After the inspection, the manager provided photographic evidence confirming that the gate had been upgraded with a double-sided keypad lock
Staffing levels are adequate with enough staff on shifts but no details on low agency use or high staff retention
There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience to care for people... plenty of staff to support people during lunch time
Activities programme has a coordinator and variety like pet therapy but no specialist named programmes or awards
