"Good training and regular activities, but poor leadership ignores safety concerns and staffing shortages leave staff unsupported."
The provider was in breach of the legal regulation relating to safe care and treatment, governance and premises and recruitment. Multiple concerns including infection control failures, unsafe medicines management, unassessed risks, and a required safeguarding referral.
Staff gave mixed feedback about morale and working at the service. One staff member told us, “The morale varies, sometimes we are happy but sometimes we are stressed”. A staff member told us, the care team tried their best, however morale was low and they did not feel the management team always respected and worked with them.
Staff told us they were sometimes unable to carry out their roles due to staff sickness and a lack of support from the management team. Feedback from staff was mixed regarding whether there were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Two staff members had not received Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Staff spoke positively about the training provided. Comments included, “The training is very good here and last month we had manual handling and I love it,” and “(Registered manager’s name) makes sure our training is refreshed regularly like manual handling is every year and it is good to have those refreshers.”
The registered manager did not always listen to concerns about safety. Lessons were not always learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.
We saw a programme of regular activities... We do karaoke and bingo, other stuff before tea and the residents love the karaoke... We observed people taking part in activities on both days of our visit.

Safety risks everywhere from poor infection control, medication errors, and unassessed hazards like choking and falls.
We identified a person was at risk of avoidable harm and neglect. We asked the registered manager to make a safeguarding referral... Whilst we did not identify anyone who had come to harm, this contributed to a breach of regulations.
