The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.
Staff said the provider, registered manager, and deputy manager, were approachable and kind and they were happy to go to them for support if they needed it. A staff member told us, “They are great, they’re always out of their offices talking to people, relatives and staff. They give the home a family and community feel.”
People, relatives, and staff told us the service was well-staffed. Staff told us the service was never short-staffed, and they were able to use agency staff if they ever needed to. We observed there were enough staff on duty to meet people’s needs.
Staff completed mandatory and additional training courses. The registered manager ensured staff understood their training by carrying out recorded competency checks and discussing good practice in regular supervision sessions.
The registered manager and nominated individual worked full-time at the service and were actively involved in all aspects of how it was run. A staff member said, “I have seen this home turnaround under the new leadership. They have put the hours in to make this home a success."
The service had a new sensory room which people enjoyed using, and the activity co-ordinator provided group and individual activities including trips out. A relative said, “There are plenty of activities on offer. [Person] enjoys having their nails painted, colouring, and planting in the garden.”
