The service was in continued breach of legal regulation in relation to the ways people’s medicines were managed safely. Staff were not consistently recording the administration of thickener so we could not be assured that this was always done safely.
Staff told us the new management team was starting to have a positive impact on the culture of the service and the quality of people’s care. One staff member told us, 'I love working here.'
We observed staffing levels and staff were available throughout our assessment in communal areas to respond to people. However, some staff told us additional staffing would be beneficial in parts of the service where people were cared for in bed.
Staff were safely recruited and received the training they needed to perform their role. Regular staff confirmed they received ongoing training to enable them to undertake their role effectively.
A new manager had been appointed since our last assessment and was in the process of registering with CQC. Staff spoke positively of this appointment, and we were told, 'The manager is responsive and supportive.'
Activities were available. A new team had been recruited and was putting together a plan of activity aimed to reduce the risk of people experiencing social isolation. People told us they were looking forward to a singer who was due into the service as part of Easter celebrations.
No registered manager in post yet, and oversight gaps mean care monitoring records are not always up to date.
