"Staff felt supported with good morale, but staffing shortages left people unsupervised, training gaps persisted and management oversight was weak."
A new accident and incident recording system was in place... However, the oversight of all incidents was not being consistently recorded, audited or analysed... some notifiable incidents to us have not been made.
Staff morale at the service was good. Staff spoke about the provider positively and felt they were treated fairly and had the freedom to speak up.
Enough suitably qualified, competent, skilled and experienced staff were not always deployed effectively we found a breach of the legal regulation 18. Staffing levels seemed at times to be insufficient.
The training matrix for elearning showed only 54% of staff had completed the practical training aspect of moving and handling, only 45% of staff had completed training on the mental capacity act and only 36% had done training on equality and diversity... no evidence of any specialist dementia training being completed by staff.
The provider for this location is also the registered manager... However, the processes for assessing risk, safety monitoring and service improvement were not always consistent and/or effective and we found a breach of regulation relating to good governance.
Not enough staff especially evenings, so people left unsupervised and have to wait for help.
During our evening visit the 3 staff on duty did not appear to have a good oversight of people in the communal lounges. We observed where there were 8 people in one lounge and there were periods of several minutes when no staff came in.
Big gaps in staff training, like low completion on moving people safely and no specialist dementia training.
only 54% of staff had completed the practical training aspect of moving and handling... no evidence of any specialist dementia training being completed by staff.
Weak oversight from managers, missing risks and not analysing accidents properly.
