"Staff praised visible and supportive managers alongside strong teamwork, but medicines management issues like stock mismatches and missed doses need attention."
We found some concerns around medicines management... numerous incidents where numbers of tablets... did not always match... numerous incidents of missed medicines... 3 people did not have protocols for PRN medicines.
Staff talked about a strong culture of teamwork... 'Everybody works as a team and helps each other to make sure the residents are happy and well looked after!'
There were enough staff to ensure people's care and support needs were met. At the time of the inspection there were no agency care staff being used but 2 vacancies for nurses covered by regular agency staff.
Staff received a robust induction including the Care Certificate, regular supervision and appraisal, and a programme of regular training to ensure staff were up-to-date with best practice.
The registered manager and deputy manager were described as being visible around the home and very approachable. Staff were positive about the support they received from manager to help them in their role.
The home had a dedicated activities team and there was a wide range of activities... opera singer, therapy dog, St.Patricks Day, children come in from the local school, mini-Olympics.
Medication system had problems like stock counts not matching records, missed doses, and no guidance for some people's pain relief meds.
The stock control of medicines was not well managed. There were numerous incidents where numbers of tablets on the electronic system did not always match the number of actual medicines in stock... numerous incidents of missed medicines... 3 people did not have protocols for when to administer 'when required' (PRN) medicines.
Two nurse vacancies covered by agency staff, so not fully stable staffing.
The deputy manager told us they had 2 vacancies for nurses which were covered by regular agency staff. The home was in the process of recruiting nurses to these roles.
