Safe Inadequate This meant people were not safe and were at risk of avoidable harm. The service was in breach of legal regulation 12 in relation to people’s safe care and treatment... Medicines were not always managed safely
Workforce wellbeing and enablement Score:2 Staff told us they felt supported by the management team. There were mixed views in relation to the staffing levels and the ability of staff to carry out their role... some staff said they had not received supervision. While staff were encouraged to give feedback, they told us it was not always acted upon
Safe and effective staffing Score:2 The provider did not always make sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff... A staff member told us due to the needs of people, and the staffing levels, this meant care and support was tasked based, as there wasn’t enough time to sit with people and provide care
Staff did not always have the necessary training to support people safely and effectively. At the time of our assessment, only 3 staff members had completed face-to-face moving and handling training
Governance and quality systems were not effective to assess and monitor the care and treatment provided within Elizabeth Court. The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. Improvements were not found at this assessment
The home employed activity co-ordinators however they did not cover 7 days week, we saw little to no interaction with people who were cared for in their beds or stayed in their bedrooms... no activities were observed on the first day of the assessment
Not enough staff so care feels rushed and task-based, with people sometimes left without supervision.
A staff member told us due to the needs of people, and the staffing levels, this meant care and support was tasked based, as there wasn’t enough time to sit with people and provide care. We observed occasions where people were left unsupervised in communal areas
Big gaps in staff training like safe moving and handling, which only 3 staff had done.
At the time of our assessment, only 3 staff members had completed face-to-face moving and handling training. As a result, the remaining staff had not yet received this training, which posed a risk of unsafe moving and handling practices
Unsafe medication practices with poor guidance on doses and covert giving, plus infection control issues.
Medicines were not always managed safely. Protocols for administering ‘as required’ (PRN) medicines lacked sufficient detail... There was no information available, from a pharmacist, for staff to follow as to the safest way to disguise each individual medicine... used continence aids being disposed of incorrectly
