Upon review of Medication Administration Records (MAR), we found there were some gaps in people’s records where medication should have been signed for when administered. We also found that medication that had to returned to the pharmacy was not being stored securely, as well as the medication fridge not being locked.
Staff told us they would be able to speak up if they needed and share feedback. One staff member said, 'If you are at work, you can make suggestions. You can tell the manager anything.'
The provider staffed the service in line with their dependency tool. Managers reported no concerns with staffing levels and told us staff picked up additional shifts to support in periods of sickness and leave.
Staff were also completing required training for their role. Those staff who administered medicines had completed medicines competencies and relevant training.
The service was managed and run by leaders who were visible and approachable. One person told us, 'I can speak to [a manager], their door is always open, and I have had meetings with them.'
Feedback from people and relatives about activities was positive. One relative told us, 'I think there is lots going on. They took [person] to the cafe...' There was lots of community fundraising completed by staff which was used towards activities.
