"Strong visible leadership and positive staff culture, but gaps in medication safety, occasional staffing shortages and basic activities hold it back."
Processes around the safe administration of medicines and safe storage of medicines needed to be consistently robust. Managers completed medicines audits and incident reviews. The service had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulation.
Staff told us the registered manager had created a listening culture that promoted trust and understanding. One staff member told us morale was good because, “We all want the same, to give residents the best life we can.”
We received mixed feedback on staffing levels from people. However, most people we spoke with told us staff were responsive and attended to their needs. Care staff told us there were enough staff to meet people’s needs, however there were times when more staff were needed.
Systems and processes were in place to support continued learning. These included supervisions, training, investigations of concerns and the completion of logs for incidents, accidents, potential safeguarding events and complaints.
The registered manager maintained a high level of visibility within the home, which gave them a high level of knowledge on the service, people, and staff issues. We observed the management team model behaviours that valued people and promoted a positive culture within the home.
People had access to activities to promote and support their health and wellbeing. We saw a variety activities taking place during the 2 day site visit. The provider had dolls and prams at the home for people.
Medication safety has gaps like stock records not matching actual amounts and wrong allergy info for one person.
we found some examples where medicines could not be accounted for because the electronic stock records did not tally with the actual quantities in stock. Allergy information was not correctly captured on one person’s record.
Staff numbers are enough usually but mixed feedback means sometimes more help is needed.

Only basic activities like dolls and variety sessions but no specialist programmes or coordinator to make the role more interesting.
