Working at Dorrington House (Watton)

No permanent manager in post, so leadership oversight relies on the area support manager.

There was no registered manager or deputy manager in post as they had left the service since our last inspection in April 2022. The area support manager had taken on the day to day management of the service since the last inspection.

Big gaps in staff training, with new starters getting none and missing key areas like first aid, safe moving and epilepsy.

Four new staff were on duty of the first day of our inspection. None had received any training ... No staff member had received training related to epilepsy and seizures ... Some staff had not received first aid training.

New staff on shifts without training or supervision, so not always safe handling risks like choking.

One new staff member was working alone while their colleague took a break. They were supporting six people to have their mid-morning snacks. They were unable to tell us who might be at risk of choking.
