There were some improvements needed to medicines records. When handwritten entries were made to medicines record charts these were not always signed or checked for accuracy. There were a few gaps in people’s records where doses had not been signed for when they had been given.
The provider had facilitated team building exercises to help the staff to bond and ensure they worked together as an effective team. Most staff felt this had improved staff morale.
Staff felt there was usually enough staff to safely support people. People told us staff responded promptly when they used their call bell.
Staff had received face to face training in caring for people living with dementia. Staff had training and competency checks to make sure they gave medicines safely.
The registered manager listened to feedback and made changes where needed. For example, in response to issues being raised about communication and oversight, the manager’s office was moved to a more prominent position in the home.
There was a programme of organised activities which people could choose to join in with. During the inspection we saw people in groups playing games and taking part in gentle exercise. People had opportunities to take part in activities in their local community. We heard how some people were involved in a community allotment.
