Staff understood safeguarding procedures and were confident in reporting any concerns. Risks to people's safety were assessed and well managed, and people’s care plans detailed current risks and individual needs. Staff supported people to take positive risks to improve their quality of life.
There was an extremely positive and open culture that ensured people were at the centre of everything the service did. Staff spoke very highly of the culture within the service and the wider organisation, drawing comparisons with others they had worked within and describing it as the best.
Staff told us that staffing levels were sufficient to meet people’s needs. One staff member told us, 'The staffing levels have improved a lot since our new manager has been here. We have really good staffing, and we always have enough staff to take people out.' The staff rotas showed there was sufficient and consistent staffing.
We saw that an ongoing schedule of training was in place, to ensure staff kept up to date with best practice, this included specific training in relation to people’s health conditions and learning disabilities. One staff member told us, “We have very good training about various subjects which are appropriate to our roles.”
Staff said the registered manager was an exceptionally kind, caring and compassionate person. One staff member told us, “The manager is very very very kind. They help us and support us all the time. We are lucky.”
One person told us, “We go out a lot and do things we enjoy.” Staff confirmed they supported people to go swimming and on walks. We observed people preparing their own lunches with support.
