"Staff feel valued in a supportive team with sufficient staffing and good training, but unreliable infection control and ineffective quality checks need attention."
We could not be fully assured the provider had effective management of infection control risks. Care records including care plans and risk assessments did not provide clear and consistent information... placed people at risk of harm.
Staff felt their views were listened to and they were valued. 'I love working here, it's like a family.' 'We [staff] are a really good team and work well together.' 'The manager is really supportive'.
Staffing levels were appropriate to meet people's needs and there were sufficient numbers of skilled staff deployed to keep people safe. Staff told us '90% of the time there is enough of us' and 'we have time for people and don't have to rush'.
Staff had received training and support to enable them to carry out their role safely. Staff had been trained to administer medicines and had been assessed as competent to do so.
The service was not always well-led. Quality monitoring systems and processes were in place however; these had not always been effective, for example care plan audits failed to identify conflicting information.
The service employed an activities co-ordinator who was completing activities in the communal lounge. However, two people told us they were bored and a relative said 'mental stimulation is not so good'.
Infection control is not reliable, with staff not wearing masks properly and some areas hard to clean properly.
Staff were not consistently following guidance... on several occasions were wearing the mask under their chin... Some areas of the home were poorly maintained, so could not be effectively cleaned.
Quality checks missed problems like conflicting care records and infection issues, so leadership does not spot risks well.
The provider's quality assurance systems had not always been used effectively... care plan and risk assessments audits failed to identify conflicting and lack of person-centred information.
Activities coordinator does basic sessions but residents say they are bored, so not much variety to make the day interesting.
