The service remained in breach of legal regulation in relation to fire safety management and making sure known risks were reduced wherever possible... concerns about... how the administration of specific medicines was checked for safety.
Staff told us they felt supported by the management team. They had been through a lot of changes... and told us whilst this had been challenging, they could see the benefits for everyone.
We received mixed views about staffing levels. Some staff, people and relatives still had concerns that staff were too busy at certain times of day... we saw on a number of occasions when no staff in lounges whilst they were in use.
Staff told us they received effective support, supervision, and development. They also told us they generally worked together well as a team... Staff were also receiving regular supervisions and appraisals.
The management team were very responsive to our findings during the assessment. They addressed concerns and were transparent... Staff told us, “The manager is nice and listens to the staff and does walk arounds.”
People and relatives commented specifically on the improvement in activities provided. They felt there was more to do, including trips out and events planned... ponies were brought to the home... cinema style film events, arts and crafts... zoo.
Staff numbers are sometimes too low, so lounges are left empty and people have to wait for help.
we saw on a number of occasions when no staff in lounges whilst they were in use. Staff were allocated to be present in the lounge but were at times required to leave to attend to other care duties.
Safety risks are not always spotted or fixed quickly, like fire plans being unclear and items not locked away.
Plans to respond safely and quickly in the event of a fire emergency were not always clear... we found some instances where staff had not managed and communicated risk effectively. Staff had identified a person was at a risk from specific products... However, we saw staff had not locked away these products.
Newer staff sometimes lack enough training or experience to handle needs well.
Some relatives were concerned that newer staff needed more training and experience... One relative said they thought staff had needed more training to understand their loved one’s condition.
