People were protected from the risk of abuse. Staff were confident the home manager would make a referral to the local authority safeguarding team and CQC if they needed to. Risks to people were identified, assessed, documented and reviewed.
Staff were positive about how the service was run and about the support they received from the home manager and deputy manager. One member of staff commented, 'I am happy work here, the managers are always very helpful, friendly and understanding and teamwork is good.'
We observed there were enough staff deployed throughout the service to meet people’s care and support needs when required. Staff told us there was always enough staff on duty at the home to meet people’s care and support needs.
The provider had a training plan in place. We looked at the training matrix. This confirmed staff had received regular training and refresher training relevant to peoples care and support needs. All new staff completed an induction in line with the Care Certificate.
The provider did not have a registered manager in post. The current home manager had managed the home since August 2023. They had applied to CQC to become the registered manager for the home.
The service employed an activities coordinator. Activities included pet therapy, quizzes, day at the races, murder mystery, Reggae Ska party, Black History day, musicians, choirs, schoolchildren visits, flower arranging, keep fit, day trips; relatives said 'activities are second to none, huge and varied range'.
No permanent manager in place yet, though the acting one has applied and staff like her.
