"Staff feel valued and supported with adequate staffing and good morale, but training gaps and inaccurate risk assessments need attention."
We reviewed a selection of care plans and risk assessments within the service, and we found they were inaccurate and had contradicting information in them. Risk assessments were duplicated and had different scores in them and were not always a true reflection of people’s needs.
All the staff we spoke to expressed how staff morale had improved within the service. Staff told us they were supported when it they felt it was needed from management. Management would work alongside staff on shifts if they were unable to cover them and this made staff feel supported.
All the staff we spoke with felt there was an adequate number of staff on shift. They expressed if there was sickness, they had support from management within the home and if they generally needed help, they were always there to get involved and support the team.
We noted staff had not always been given adequate training to meet people’s needs in the service. There were people living in the service who required support with specific health needs and staff had not received adequate training to enable them to do this.
Staff expressed they are thanked on a regular basis and that makes a big difference. Staff felt they were encouraged to put ideas forward and to develop themselves. This made staff feel valued by the service.
Staff told us that they felt the service provided a variety of activities and could tell us some examples of some that had taken place such as exercises on a weekly basis and singers. The service has a wishing tree within the environment where people can write a wish.
Training has gaps in key areas like specific health needs, DOLS, and fire safety so you might not feel fully prepared for all situations.
staff did not know what DOLS was and what it entailed. This concerned us when people were being deprived of their liberty within the service and staff were not aware.
Risk assessments are often inaccurate or outdated which makes it harder to manage daily safety properly.
Risk assessments were duplicated and had different scores in them and were not always a true reflection of people’s needs.
Supervisions for staff are behind schedule with some overdue which means less regular feedback and support.
there were gaps in the supervisions records and 7 staff were due to have their supervision completed in August 24 and these were not completed and had not been carried forward into the following months to complete.
