The culture within the service was a home away from home... It was clear staff enjoyed working at the home. Many staff had worked for years at the service, and they told us this was because they enjoyed their work. There were enough staff on duty to meet the needs of people who used the service. Throughout our visit, we observed there were staff available to meet people's needs in a timely manner. We observed staff were not rushing and had the time to sit with people if they needed. Staff told us they felt there was appropriate staffing levels.
There were procedures to help make sure staff employed were suitable and had the skills and knowledge they needed. These included recruitment checks, regular training and supervision. Staff told us they had effective support and development opportunities and added they completed online training to maintain their knowledge.

The home had a dedicated activities manager who was very experienced... People were supported to participate in a variety of events, such as art and flower making. There were regular quizzes and impromptu activities... regular music activities... The home also had a therapy dog, which was a regular visitor... People and staff planted the garden...
