The provider had been proactive in promoting a culture of safety... There had been vast improvements in the safe management of medicines. We identified some low-level concerns which were rectified immediately.
Staff felt extremely well supported with the new management team and told us the culture of the home had completely changed. An open and honest environment had been created and the management team assured us there was a no blame culture.
We found staffing levels during our visit to be satisfactory. Staff were responsive to people’s needs. People told us, there was enough staff on duty... We received mixed feedback from relatives about staffing levels.
Staff told us they were regularly provided with training and supervision and were encouraged to develop their skills and obtain additional qualifications. Staff were recruited safely and were supported with a robust induction, training, and supervision.
The management team were visible and responsive and from our observations, knew people well. Relative's told us, 'The new manager has made a difference to the home... He is very visible and knows everyone by name.'
The team had developed a 'Burrswood world cruise'... Staff completed regular baking activities... A local school had visited the home... Some people felt there was not enough going on in the home.
Staffing is adequate but relatives say they could do with more staff and the ratio is not always enough.
“They could do with more staff, the staff do more and above.” and “I don’t think the patient to staff ratio is enough. There is a senior and there should be 4-5 staff members on each unit.”
Some activities like themed cruises and baking but some people feel there is not enough going on.
