Staff had been trained in safeguarding and had a good understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures. Risks posed to people had been assessed and suitable action had been taken. The administration and management of medicines was safe. The service had effective arrangements to respond to incidents.
There was a positive culture throughout the service which focused on providing person centred care. The staff we spoke with felt supported by the registered manager and told us they could raise any issues which would be dealt with effectively.
There were sufficient numbers of staff to meet people's needs. People were supported by a consistent team of staff that knew their needs well. The staff we spoke with told us there was a consistent staff team who knew the people well and there were always sufficient staff working in the service at any time.
Staff had received appropriate training to carry out their roles including Positive Behavioural Support, Epilepsy training and other specialist training. Staff had received an induction when they first started. They told us they received regular one to one meetings with the manager to discuss work related issues and their development needs.
Everyone we spoke with praised the registered manager. Staff told us the registered manager had an open-door policy and was available to support staff at any time. The registered manager was always willing to help staff with any care tasks.
People were supported to access a range of activities including going to the beach, town, bowling, arts and crafts, swimming, meals out, cooking, music therapy. The service converted a room into a home gym and supported access to a further education course. We spoke with the activities coordinator.
Enough staff with a consistent team keep shifts covered well, but no details on long team tenure or keeping workloads light for really personalised care.
