The provider had not always ensured care and support was provided in the least restrictive way. We saw staff escorted 1 person from the kitchen and then locked the door... The person had the mental capacity to make decisions about accessing this.
Staff told us they were happy working at the service. They said there was good teamwork and communication with managers. Comments from 1 member of staff included, “We work as a team. We all feel involved and listened to.”
The provider did not use agency staff... there had been improvements with staff retention. They told us they had supported some staff to develop into senior roles, and this had helped with the continuity of care at the service.
Staff were supported to undertake qualifications in health and social care. Staff had regular supervisions, appraisals and assessments of their competencies to make sure they demonstrated good skills and knowledge.
Staff told us they felt supported by the registered manager and the rest of the management team. Their comments included, “Every member of the management team supports us. One of them is always available” and “The manager listens to us and gives us advice.”
People had developed a plan of events and activities which they enjoyed each week. These included attending places in the local community, meeting with friends and undertaking activities at home.
Staff locked the kitchen door to keep residents out even when they had the mental capacity to access it themselves.
