"Friendly culture where staff pull together and positive feedback on the manager, but agency staffing reliance and medication safety gaps need addressing."
Medicines were generally managed safely... However, some lacked person-centred detail and 3 medicines didn’t have a guide at all. When someone had more than one medicine for the same condition it was not clear which should be administered first... Staff did not always follow the correct process for recording when thickener powder was added to drinks.
Staff were engaged and involved. One said, “It is really well organised everyone pulls their weight and we work together.” Per 2023 report: “The culture is very good. It's a friendly culture, everyone is looking after everyone.”
The registered manager confirmed regular agency and bank staff were used to support consistency in the staff team. Some staff fedback that more staff were sometimes required. They said, “There are enough staff. Sometimes they [the staff numbers] can be a bit lower but these shifts are covered”
Certificates of training were noted, and the training matrix confirmed a range of training had been completed and was ongoing. All staff were in the process of completing specific training to support people safely in times of heightened behaviours or anxiety.
Most of the staff team provided positive feedback about the registered manager and the changes that had been made. They told us, “The manager is lovely. We have been through a change. Things are settling now”, “The new manager is making progress and improvement in the home”
A range of activities were undertaken. They said, “People do get out, recently we have been to sea life, and a recent pantomime, activities are also on a one to one basis. They also go to the shops or cinema”, “There are external activities swimming, cinema, fair, shopping. Internally people can do colouring and Lego”
Staffing is adequate but relies on regular agency and bank staff, and sometimes numbers are low so existing staff pick up extra shifts.

Medication safety has gaps like missing guides for some medicines and incomplete recording of thickener added to drinks.
