There was a positive and open culture in the home. Staff expressed having confidence in and feeling supported by the manager, one staff member told us, '[Manager] is like a mother in the home…I feel they are a person you can approach and they're not afraid to get stuck in.'
There were enough staff on the day of inspection to meet people's needs. Care was delivered in a calm and unhurried manner. Agency staff also completed a basic induction; however, induction could not be evidenced for one agency staff member used recently.
Per 2020 comprehensive inspection: The provider had a comprehensive training matrix in place to identify when staff were due for refresher training. Staff received training to meet people's needs in relation to end of life care. Staff received improved supervisions and regular team meetings.
There was a registered manager for the home who was not in the service daily. There was also a new manager with daily oversight of the service who was applying to be registered with CQC. Quality assurance systems were in place but needed further development.
Per 2020 comprehensive inspection: A new activities co-ordinator had been employed to support personalised activities. A member of staff told us, '[Name of activities co-ordinator] goes into people's rooms and spends time reading or talking or painting their nails.'
