There was a robust process in place to monitor incidents, accidents and near misses. Incidents and accidents were analysed monthly. There had been a reduction in incidents. People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. Medicines were managed safely.
Staff told us morale was good and everyone enjoyed working with each other. There was a good sense of teamwork. “I love working here, spending time with the guys is amazing.” And “I feel well listened too now.” All staff said they would recommend the home as a place to work now.
Since the previous inspection, staffing levels had been increased and an consistent team of permanent staff were in place. The home was fully staffed at the time of the inspection.
Training records showed staff complete a wide range of core training, including Safeguarding, First Aid... More specific training, tailored to the particular needs of those at the home, was also provided. For example, training in epilepsy, learning disability and autistic spectrum conditions.
Staff told us the management team were capable, compassionate and inclusive. Relatives were happy with the communication from staff and the registered manager.
We observed a person being supported to go swimming and another person heading off to a local café. Staff stated that the home has access to its own transport vehicle which is used to facilitate people’s activities. Some people like to have long walks so some activities were accessed by foot, or people were supported to use public transport safely.
No activities coordinator or specialist programmes, so the role is mostly routine care with basic outings like swimming, cafe visits and walks.
