There were safeguarding policies and procedures in place and staff had a clear understanding of these procedures. Risks were assessed; medicines were managed safely with no gaps in records.
There was a positive workplace culture amongst nursing, care, kitchen, domestic, office-based staff and the management team. Staff told us the new manager and clinical lead are supportive and relationships have improved.
We observed that the staffing levels at the home were meeting people's needs. Comments from staff: 'Staffing levels are okay at the moment' and 'Not using agency staff so much has made a real difference.'
Per 2019 comprehensive inspection: Staff had completed an induction, were up to date with training and received regular supervision. Training included dementia awareness, moving and handling, infection control and medicines administration.
Staff said they received good support from the new manager and staff moral had improved. Relatives told us there had been improvements since the new manager started working at the home.
We saw a weekly activity notice board with activities including dominoes, word games, floor netball, painting, skittles, music and movement. Activities coordinator had recently left; two staff acting in role.
No full-time activities coordinator right now, so the role involves mostly routine care with basic games and crafts run by other staff.
The regional manager told us the activities coordinator had recently left and they were actively recruiting a replacement. As a temporary measure two staff members were acting in the activities coordinators role in supporting people.
