"Good training, positive staff culture and engaging activities stand out, but no permanent manager and unrecorded injuries hold it back."
We observed some injuries on people that had not been recorded or investigated... concerns surrounding cleanliness during our visit... records did not include if a medicine was given covertly... grab bag... listed people who were no longer at the home.
Staff stated they enjoyed working at Banbury Heights Nursing Home. One staff member said, 'I feel the management is compassionate, visible and proactive. They are always approachable.' Staff knew how to speak up and action had been taken.
We observed the care provided to each person was adequate but rather functional and tasks oriented with staff not always using the opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation with people. Some staff felt staffing levels could be increased: 'Sometimes, not always'.
Per 2019 comprehensive inspection: Staff had ongoing training that was relevant to their roles and met the Care Certificate criteria. The provider introduced a 'Nursing Training Initiative' to support staff to become nurses.
Since the last inspection the home manager had left and the provider’s training manager was in the process of registering with Care Quality Commission until another, permanent manager was appointed. The provider’s systems and processes had not identified or mitigated the concerns we found during the assessment.
Per 2019 comprehensive inspection: There were designated staff responsible for organising activities... choice of in-house activities as well as outings... 'Well-being' care plans with people to decide on... 'magic moments'... multi-cultural events.
No permanent manager yet, and oversight misses problems like unrecorded injuries and poor cleaning.
the home manager had left and the provider’s training manager was in the process of registering... provider’s governance systems were not always fully effective and did not identify concerns we found. For example, the provider’s most recent cleaning audits demonstrated all checked areas were found clean. We found concerns surrounding cleanliness.
Staffing is enough for tasks but rushed, with constant call bells and no time to chat with residents.
We observed the care provided to each person was adequate but rather functional and tasks oriented... The constant bell ringing does annoy me... The carers have no time to stay, and they have no real interest in my life.
Injuries and risks like bruising not always recorded or followed up, and medication records miss key details like hidden doses.
we observed some injuries on people that had not been recorded or investigated... We also observed two people had sustained bruising, and the records did not fully demonstrate these risks... records did not include if a medicine was given covertly.
