Staff were aware of their responsibility to safeguard people from abuse, and there was a culture of learning from incidents to prevent reoccurrence. Comprehensive risk assessments were in place.
Staff felt well supported and valued by the management team, and ideas for improvement put forward by them were actioned. We observed staff working well together as a team.
Staff told us there were enough of them to meet people’s needs. One staff member told us, “Yes, the work is manageable. We have enough staff to do the job.” The use of agency staff was minimal.
Staff were provided with the training they required to provide safe care to people. Training was carried out in block sessions. Training modules were relevant and specific to people’s needs.
There was a newly appointed manager in place who had been working at the service for 4 days. Prior to this, the regional manager had been providing oversight and leadership to the staffing team.
People were able to access the community in ways that mattered to them including pub visits, shopping trips, park outings, faith practice and family time. Each person had 1:1 care hours with a staff member.
The manager is brand new, only 4 days in post, so leadership feels unsettled with reliance on the regional manager.
