"Hands-on management and a positive culture where staff feel proud, although agency staffing for sickness and no dedicated activities coordinator hold it back."
The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.
Staff spoke proudly about the service and told us, “The best thing about this place is the standard of care we provide,” and “People here do get very well looked after and they are happy here.” A staff member told us, “It’s a positive place to work, if there’s a problem, we discuss it together and a solution is found.”
There were enough suitable staff to provide safe care... One staff member said, “If we are short of staff because of sickness we use agency workers, and the managers do help out with meal times and with personal care. It’s never a problem.”
Staff had received training that supported them to be effective in their roles. One staff member said, “The training is specific to people’s needs. We all had training in stoma care and catheter care because we admitted people with those needs.”
Staff described the registered manager as being “hands on” and easy to approach. One staff member said, “The good thing here is all the staff muck in, including the seniors and manager, if we are struggling, they help out.”
People told us they had enough to do and enjoyed the activities that were organised. We observed people were positively engaged with different activities depending upon their interests. One relative told us, “The amount of things happening to keep people occupied here, it’s been the making of him.”
Staffing levels are adequate but they use agency workers when someone calls in sick.

Activities keep people engaged but no dedicated coordinator or specialist programmes mentioned.
