"Supportive management and a strong team culture make staff feel valued, but agency staff use and everyday activities hold it back."
Staff knew how to keep people safe, and how to report concerns... Risks to people's safety and welfare were identified and responded to promptly... People's medicines were well managed, and they received them as prescribed.
One staff member said, 'I've been here a long time, it is the best it has ever been. Its organised, there is more structure, communication is better, training is better and the manager now involves us and supports us.' Staff echoed the ethos... 'we work as a team.'
People told us that there were enough staff to meet their needs... Staff told us there were enough staff and that when agency staff were used they were known to them and aware of how to meet people's needs.
All care staff had completed a nationally recognised level two dementia awareness training, in addition to champion training in nutrition, dementia and falls. Staff said they felt supported and had regular one to one supervision meetings.
Feedback about the registered manager and management team was positive. The registered manager had developed a culture in the home based upon an open and caring environment. Staff told us that the registered manager had brought about real change... '[Registered Manager and Deputy Manager] are very supportive. The door is always open...'
Activity staff were enthusiastic... we now have the sensory room, the cinema, nail salon, hairdresser... We went on a lot of small day trips. Like we went to see new Spurs stadium, lunches in the local garden centre, and a garden party.
Staffing is adequate with enough people on shift, but they sometimes use agency workers even if those are familiar ones.
Staff told us there were enough staff and that when agency staff were used they were known to them and aware of how to meet people's needs.
Varied activities like trips, singers, sensory room and garden parties keep things interesting, but no specialist programmes or awards to really stand out.
Activities has made a massive difference, we now have the sensory room, the cinema, nail salon, hairdresser... We went on a lot of small day trips... garden party.
