Effective systems were not always in place to assess, monitor and mitigate risks to people... We identified some people’s needs were at risk of not being met in respect of management of continence and catheter care, choking, epilepsy and dementia.
During the assessment, there was a positive culture of safety, based on openness and transparency. Staff told us they were confident to raise concerns and be listened to.
The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs.
Staff were fully trained in all key areas for example, medicines, epilepsy management and moving and handling. New staff went through a thorough induction process and were supported with regular supervision meetings and spot and competency checks.
Staff felt the management team were open and approachable, and there were now regular opportunities for staff and management to discuss incidents or areas for improvement within the service to ensure lessons were learnt.
There was a lack of activities that promoted people to be involved in things they enjoyed, for example, games, singing and one to one conversations. A lack of personalised activities.
