"Supportive managers, good training and positive teamwork, but inconsistent medicines management and occasional staffing stretches are concerns."
Medicines had not been managed consistently. Some time specific medicine had not been administered on time. Topical creams were not being recorded consistently when applied.
Staff told us they enjoyed working at the service and there was good teamwork. Staff said it was well-led and they had seen improvements had been made to the care provided.
We observed there were enough staff to meet people’s needs. The service had a full complement of permanent staff and only used agency to cover short notice absence.
Staff were supported and encouraged to complete qualifications relevant to their role. Nursing staff were supported to revalidate their nursing pins. Staff had been provided with training on the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI).
There was a registered manager and clinical lead at the service who were both approachable and supportive of staff. Staff told us the registered manager was fair in their approach and treated staff the same with no favourites.
Activities staff were employed who organised a range of activities and events for people. This included trips out into the local community, pub evenings, arts and crafts and musical entertainment. I love it when the dogs come into the home.
Staff sometimes gave medicines late and did not always record creams properly, so safety processes have minor gaps.

Staffing is adequate but uses agency staff for short notice sickness and some days feel stretched.
Staff told us at times staffing could be an issue due to short notice sickness, however, there was always enough staff to keep people safe.
Risk plans are not always detailed enough to clearly guide staff on handling distress.
Some risk management plans were not detailed enough to give staff clear guidance when supporting people with distress. Daily records were at times conflicting.
